A Smallish Thanksgiving

What do you want to hear first? The good news, or the bad news? Get the bad news out of the way, ok?
My mom was up all night sick and called Thanksgiving morning to say that she and my dad would not be able to come. Very. Bad. News. She was so sad and so sick. We were all really disappointed that Mom and Dad would not be with us on Thanksgiving! (Also, she was supposed to bring the cranberry relish, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie. Plan B . . . do we have a Plan B??)
Thankfully, many of the ingredients we needed for Mom's recipes had come in the box this week! Joshua and Whitney stopped at the store on their way over for a couple of things I didn't have and we managed to whip up the items that would be missing in no time! As we sat down to eat, it was strange not to have Mom and Dad there. And it was almost more surreal to realize that "the kids" had managed to put together a very lovely meal without Mom! (We had to admit, we were pretty proud of ourselves.)
Whitney made two very delicious pies -- berry and pumpkin. Yummmmmmmy! Jillian enjoyed snuggling with Uncle Joshua and Auntie Whitney with her bowl of pie! Chris enjoyed resting off the big meal.Even though it was a smallish gathering and we missed Mom and Dad, we still managed to have a very good time and a Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for my family and our relatively good health. Get well soon, Mom! We have leftovers to eat!
